1. Torrey Pines Natural State Reserve
Torrey Pines Natural State Reserve is 1,500 acres of undeveloped land, comprised of miles of beaches, a lagoon, and the Torrey pines.
The reserve has overlooked for anyone interested in catching a sunset from a vantage point, and there are plenty of walking trails for early morning strolls.
2. Del Mar Farmers Market
The Del Mar Farmers Market is an outdoor market open year-round on Saturdays from 1:00-4:00 PM. The market offers to produce, flowers, baked goods, and more from local vendors.
You’ll also find clothing, crafts, and jewelry for sale in the market. Prepared food is also sold if you want to grab lunch before you head home with your purchases.
3. Fletcher Cove Beach Park
If you’re looking for a peaceful park to picnic at, Fletcher Cove is a perfect choice. The park also features basketball courts and a playground for little ones. You’ll also find a viewing deck, where you can enjoy the ocean view.
4. Dog-Friendly Del Mar Beach
Del Mar Beach isn’t just for people! Your dog can enjoy a day at the beach as well as at the dog beach in Del Mar.
The beach is equipped with waste stations and is located at the northern end of Del Mar Beach, from 29th Street to the Solana Beach border. Dogs must be on a leash during the daytime hours, but they permit unleashed dogs from dawn to 8 AM.
5. Free Flight
Free Flight is a rehabilitation center and shelter for exotic birds. The sanctuary helps re-socialize parrots, which can later be adopted by visitors.
Visitors can chat with the birds, feed them with provided food, and learn about parrot care. It’s fun for all ages, but little ones will especially love getting to interact with the birds!
6. Del Mar Plaza
If you’re looking for the best shopping near Del Mar Beach, check out Del Mar Plaza. This 3-level shopping mall has something for everyone, from boutiques to spas to fine dining restaurants.
Del Mar Plaza also hosts live music, so you can enjoy entertainment even if you just drop by to window shop.
7. Del Mar Racetrack
If you’re a fan of Seabiscuit, you can’t miss out on a trip to the Del Mar Racetrack! The historic arena has been open since 1937 and hosts racing season each year from July to September.
Since 2014, it’s also held a second meet from November to early December. The arena also holds weekly Friday night concerts before the final race of the day.
