Things to Do

Del Mar Fairgrounds opened in 1936 and quickly attracted a glittering list of celebrities to this pretty seaside town. Many events are held at the Fairgrounds throughout the year, including the San Diego County Fair. Held each year in Del Mar neighborhood between June and July, this is the largest county fair in the United States, with attendees numbering above 1.6 million. The fair features livestock exhibits, fairground rides, talent contests, and a huge variety of live entertainment.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club holds a series of horse races at the Fairgrounds’ racetrack between July and September. KABOO Del Mar is a major music festival bringing big-name performers to the Del Mar Fairgrounds each September. Past headliners have included Aerosmith, Imagine Dragons, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Killers.

Living in Del Mar neighborhood, you’ll get to see the sands of Del Mar City Beach stretch along the gorgeous Pacific coast backed by ocean bluffs. Across the lagoon entrance of the San Dieguito River from the main body of Del Mar City Beach, Del Mar North Beach is a dog-friendly stretch that offers excellent swimming and surfing.

Just south of Del Mar, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve extends across 2,000 acres of rugged coastal scenery. The public Torrey Pines Golf Club in Del Mar neighborhood offers 36 holes of world-class golfing atop cliffs overlooking the ocean.
