Fall has officially landed and the holiday season is upon us. Halloween is just around the corner prompting us to decorate and fill our calendars with all things harvest related, of both the fun and the spooky kind. San Diego really gets into the spirit of the season with a variety of fun activities for the whole family.

Here are my top 3 picks of fun things to do this fall 2015:

Pumpkin Station Del Mar

There are actually several Pumpkin Stations located throughout San Diego, but there is one located closeby in Del Mar (and even one not too much further northeast in Rancho Bernardo). Kids can enjoy picking pumpkins of any size from the pumpkin patch, fun rides, a bounce house, various games, a petting zoo and more. All locations have free parking and admission. There is a fee for some of the activities but you can look for coupons here.

The Pumpkin Station in Del Mar is located at 15555 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Del Mar, CA 92014

Jack o’lantern enthusiasts will delight at the site of over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins illuminating the night at this super fun event at San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park in Escondido. Pumpkin artistry will be at its finest and on creative display for all to marvel at while strolling along a 1/3-mile scenic walking trail. This event is a first for San Diego and will be a wonder to see for the entire family. The event takes place on Fridays and Saturdays throughout October in the latter part of the evenings, after dark.

Take Note: The Safari Park closes at 5 p.m. This is after dark event requires purchasing separate advanced online tickets, which can be purchased from The RISE website. Tickets are not available at the actual event, at the Safari Park, or through the Safari Park’s reservations line. All tickets for The RISE must be purchased in advance via

Suzie’s Farm Celebrates the Season with Their Annual Pumpkin Palooza

Calling those who appreciate all things local and organic! This event takes place in the southern-most region of San Diego (think south Chula Vista) but it’s absolutely worth the drive. On Saturday October 13th from 10am to 3pm Suzie’s Farm will host their harvest celebration, Pumpkin Palooza. This is a truly authentic pumpkin picking experience. Their farm houses a 2-acre pumpkin patch for you and the family to venture thru and pick that perfect pumpkin straight from the vine. There will also be musical entertainment, activities such as face painting, pumpkin carving, and even a ladybug release. The owners, Robin and Lucila, will be there to answer any questions you might have about their farm, and organic farming. There will also be Farm Tour for attendees to take-in all the farm holds and does — you can even take home a bag of freshly picked veggies for a small fee of $10. Other fees apply for specific activities and events. For more info about this fun October event and the farm visit their website at

Suzie’s Farm is located at 2550 Sunset Ave, San Diego, CA 92154
